Many musical genres utilize guitars in some form or another as an integral part of their style. Solo performances often revolve around guitars, as well. One type of music that relies heavily on the guitar is blues music. Blues guitars are very important in blues music. They help develop the sound and truly give the music the blues sound.

The genre of blues was first developed by slaves after the Civil War. The term blues wasn’t actually used until the mid 1920s. Blues guitars usually use strings made of material other than the standard nylon. However, nylon strings can be used effectively on blues guitars, as well. Blues guitars that are particularly popular among blues musicians often utilize a slide. This type of playing a blues guitar is known as slide guitar, bottleneck guitar or steel guitar. So particular instrument is actually required for playing blues music, but no instrument is more suited for the blues genre than the guitar.

Blues guitars are not a special type of guitar but rather the style of playing either an electric or acoustic guitar. Many famous musicians played key roles in defining the genre of blues, and these artists are the main focus of many aspiring blues guitarists. Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix and Chuck Berry are just some of the successful and widely known musicians who played blues guitar. The blues guitar is not confined strictly to blues music but rather adds a blues touch to a variety of different styles of music, such as rock and country.

Many blues guitar players rely on listening and practice to learn to play the blues guitar. Another popular method for learning to play blues guitar is to take lessons from someone who plays blues guitar. Listening to famous blues guitar players from different eras and styles is often one of the best and most effective ways to learn to play blues guitar. Playing blues guitar is one of most versatile forms of guitar playing and can be done with any type of guitar, strings and equipment. Some guitars are more preferable for blues guitar players, though.

Learning to play blues guitar can be time consuming and difficult if you are on your own and have a diminished sense of pitch. Videos and live lessons are often preferred by guitarists of all styles because you have the ability to pause, rewind or ask someone to play it again. Also, visual learning is a highly effective way to learn blues guitar because you can see the many different styles, positions and equipment that is used by blues guitar players.

The history of blues music is just as diverse as the history of the guitar itself. Both came into being when cultures merged, so it is only natural that the blues guitar is an integral part of the very heart and soul of blues music. Many different styles of music use the blues music styles as part of their roots. Musicians who choose to learn blues guitar are often very versatile and can play many different styles of music with ease.
